Disable :

sed -i 's/\(^SELINUX=\).*/\SELINUX=disabled/' /etc/selinux/config && reboot 


[root@localhost]# sestatus
SELinux status:                 disabled


If you used the following config file (/etc/sysconfig/selinux) to change the status, like you should, and it doesn't work, it means that the main file didn't get changed. The file most people say to edit is really a symlink to this file /etc/selinux/config
